Character Journal #15

Let’s talk about Hoodie kid! Yay!

Not a character journal, but I tried the Empathy test with Dani and I’m laughing because she scored a 15. And I based all of those answers on what she would do…..

So she can be a pretty cold individual.

I don’t even have to take this test for Svyk or Sven. I know they’ll most likely score around 15 or lower than that. But wow.

This test is probably a bad way to assess where your characters stand but I found it interesting none the less.

Character Journal #14

It’s been a while since I’ve done this and of course I want to do this again to sort out my thoughts on my characters.

Note to self: Don’t listen to Bacon Pancakes while writing a dark scene. It’ll INSTANTLY kill whatever writing motivation you had prior to listening.

I’ve been procrastinating writing this for a while now. But essentially I failed NaNoWrimo this year. The reason is a combination between added workload and an unfinished outline. What essentially killed me was the unfinished outline.

I had planned to crunch out to 50k on the very last weekend of November but things didn’t work out well. Ignoring the fact that one of my professors decided to be an unprecedented dick and assign a last minute essay, the flow of my story began to die the minute I went beyond my outline.

I had only written how Asuka and Darren met all the way to where the travel to a new town…and that was it in my outline. I had scarce details about where other characters would show up. But essentially I didn’t have the whole story planned out and boy did I wish I had.

By the time I had wrote that they arrived in this new town things began to slowly fall apart and I began to see a different story form. It was less about an idiot and a serious clergywoman traveling together and a different story entirely. A story I didn’t want.

So I stopped there and decided to quit NaNo.

It was a good run though. I was able to get a better idea of where I want to go with the story. I also realized it would be better to have all the characters from the start than just slowly trickling into the story. Within a month or so I’ll probably attempt re-writing the story or drawing the characters to get a better scope of everything.

But essentially I lost NaNoWrimo as a challenge but not as my goal to develop my story.

Character Journal #13

I was not going to post anymore character journals because of NaNo. But I swear the ideas for this AU are hurting me to the point I can’t focus on writing. So I’m dumping all of these ideas in one go.

Let’s talk about Sven, shall we?

It’s been a rough couple of days. My plan of action last weekend was to hit 30k so I could cruise through the week trying to focus on homework and any written assignments that needed to be finished. It’s been 5 days now and I never managed that. Bonus: I’m behind on both NaNo and homework now.

On the plus side, I’m still managing to keep up with the daily word count. So I guess that’s not too bad.

The story has progressed in a way I didn’t think would happen. A character that I had originally planned to be introduced later appeared earlier than expected. This actually shifted the story in an unexpected way and caused Asuka to get wounded, followed by the character that was going to appear later, and Darren was absent in the story for a bit. But now Darren is around and explaining stuff…or rather he tried to not explain stuff until Asuka threatened him. T’was fun to write that last part.

Although because something has happened earlier than I had planned, I’m going to have to figure out something else for like the next 3 chapters before it hits the end.

Also I figured out this story may need to be split into two or three parts. Because I didn’t think some parts would get so lengthy. D’:

Favorite line(s) of the day:

“You’re being extremely vague on purpose.”

“Is that so?” He smirked at her.

“I swear to the Mourning Moon if you don’t start answering my question in a hundred percent details, I will punch you so hard you won’t feel your face for a week.”

And she did totally punch him and he whined like a baby about it. Then Asuka swore she was going to punch him again and that’s when Darren swore he was going to be honest.
My characters, ladies and gentlemen.

Made some progress writing last night and still trying to figure out a good time to do so. It seems like when I try to write at night, someone interrupts me and I loose my train of thought. I tried relaxing this morning but it held the same result and I’d try mid-afternoon but my inspiration is usually dull by that point in the day.

In terms of story, it seems like Asuka and Darren’s friendship has shifted a bit. Asuka seems more willing to go along with Darren’s plans but only because she has nothing else to do with her life (according to her) and Darren is okay with that. Then they bicker. I don’t even know and I’m not even near the next major plot event that really shifts the story into high gear.

Favorite line of the day:

“I think I’ve misunderstood you this whole time.”

“Oh?”

“Yes, you’re far more gullible and stupid than I thought you were.”

Asuka tossed her cup at him in response.

Not really a line but it wouldn’t have made sense without some context. Darren is still a dick the blog post.

I tried to aim for 12k but ultimately got distracted by the election. Ended up skipping the important exposition bit for a minute just to write some humor into the story. I’ll most likely go back and finish it tomorrow when I have more time.

Other thing, I’ve noticed that Darren is shaping up to be a very knowledgable dick in this story when I only intended him to be a womanizing dick. Not sure if I like this change or not.

Favorite line of the day:

“I hate you with every fiber of my being right now.”

“That’s what makes you so precious,” Darren smirked.

That sums up Darren and Asuka’s relationship in a nutshell. Asuka HATES him but she has no choice but to travel with him right now. And Darren is highly entertained by this and constantly makes things worst for her because he’s a dick.
